The gastronomic scene in Alicante has changed a lot over last few years. New places with a modern, fresh and innovative concept are renovating our culinary offer. Singular and personal places much more similar to those places you may find in a bigger city such as Madrid and Barcelona.
I am going to talk about 3 of these places in this post:

This is the place for an urban picnic. María (chef) and Mª Angeles (nice and pretty manager) behind the counter will offer you a delicious offer of croquettes (you can not miss the carrillada ones), sandwiches (my favourite is salami, rocket and mustard), creamed vegetables and dips. And a fresh fruit juice to drink. Grab your sandwich, a salad and a fresh juice and taste it in the nearby Plaza Gabriel Miro. The ideal plan after a long walk in Alicante.

Calle San Francisco, 57, 965 14 13 14.

As the owner (Edward) says “this is the project for my forties”. A Gastrobar ruled by a northamerican people showing us a totally unknown version of the yankee cuisine for us. Beyond his amazing burguer, you can not miss the quesadillas, the Thai ribs or the Danish sirloin. And a delicious red velvet cake with a gin tonic as a dessert. Reservation is essential becuase it is closed at weekends and word of mouth is working great.

Calle Poeta Quintana, 70, 966 35 57 37.

For bread lovers, for those who are sick and tired of fake bread and for the Panarras (those who like to make bread at home). Ramón Maciá, an entrepeneur, makes mother dough breads with genuine flavour and texture. Rye bread, wheat bread, a wide bread offer that will make you love the most essential food for me: bread.
